My name is Jim Yeager and I love my job!
I shoot weddings, portraits, and events in the Portland, Vancouver, and Salem areas. One of the best parts of being a photographer in Portland Oregon area is the access to amazing scenery and always changing weather. I have taken some amazing portraits in front of Portland bridges when it is low light and overcast. I do travel outside this area for photography as well. Let me know if your having a destination wedding and I will give you my special rate!
The best part about my job is seeing the expression and excitement when people see their pictures printed. It gives me great pleasure to give people the gift of memories. That is something you will remember forever.

My photography story
When I first got interested in photography, I was only a couple years old. I would steal my moms camera and run around the room taking random pictures everywhere! I am still not sure if I thought I was taking pictures, or just wanted to see the flash bounce of the walls. (kinda like I did:) All throughout my younger school years I usually had a disposable film point and shoot camera in my hand or pocket most of the time. I think I still have a bag of undeveloped ones somewhere. Throughout my High School years I took all the SLR film classes I could. I mostly took independent study so I could travel to take photographs off campus. In college I studied business at CCC and PCC full time. I took some advanced photography classes here and there, but my mind was still working on my previous business, a sound and lighting rental company called Deep Down Sound. Still not knowing that I would become a full time photographer in my late 20s, I bought my first digital camera in the year 2000 when I was 22. The Canon PowerShot S100 was a whopping 1.9 megapixels... but still could blow up a great 8X10! It was not until my friend brought over his Canon digital rebel XT in 2005 that I was interested in buying a digital SLR camera. I went around my house taking pictures of everything, I was hooked. After my DSLR camera purchase I started building my portfolio. It was all downhill from there. I now use a Canon 5D MK II that is 21 megapixels with Canon L lenses.

Portland wedding photographer
I love shooting weddings period. I always look forward to the day of a beautiful wedding. Everyone is looking their best and in a great mood, I fuel the fire with my comedy and chipper mood. When I am the photographer at a wedding in Portland, Salem, or any other location, I usually have my photo booth with me. Everyone loves the photo booth and it is actually a talking photo booth. You get inside the booth and it will talk you through 4 pictures. Then the photo booth will automatically print out your pictures for you right out of the machine!

Editing the photos
Fun editing is what I am all about! When sun goes down, I thrive on the background and lighting to create fun portraits and dancing shots! Not all photos I take are as crazy as this one, I always make sure that my clients get at least a few shots that are a little more different and creative like this one. When editing these type of pictures it takes a little longer, but well worth the effort. When I am the photographer for a portrait or a wedding I make sure that all the pictures that the clients get are edited just right.

Night time photography
Taking night portraits is one of my specialties. Silhouettes like this picture here are a lot of fun to shoot when I can adjust the settings on the camera to make cool pictures like this happen.

Pet photography
Pets are one of my specialties. Most photographers shy away from taking pictures of animals and people with animals. I find the challenge fun and interesting and with the tricks I have up my sleeves I can make any dog, cat, horse, or any animal behave enough to get the right shot.

My camera equipment
Should you try to take professional quality wedding images with a Canon Digital Rebel and the kit lens? The answer is no. However, a good digital SLR body combined with multiple good lenses is a good start. You need good quality L lenses that have F stops of 2.8 or faster to take good quality pictures that have the right background blur. I use only the best and latest camera body and lenses made from Canon. I have a lens for every occasion. You really need separate lenses for ring and flower shots, portraits, the ceremony, and the reception. Remember, good gear does not mean good photography, but it is half the battle.

Here is a list of the equipment I bring to every wedding.

Canon 5D MK III 22 megapixel body
Canon 40D backup body
Canon 580EX II flashes
Canon 430EX backup flash
Canon 35mm 1.4L
Canon 16-35mm 2.8 II ultra wide angle
Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L portrait zoom lens
Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II telephoto zoom lens
Canon 85mm f/1.2L II prime portrait lens
Canon 28mm f/1.8 portrait backup lens
Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM macro lens for ring/ flower
Canon 15mm f/2.8 FISHEYE lens
Portable studio setup with soft boxes & umbrellas
Various wireless flash triggers and tripods

Photo booth rental
I also have several photo booths that I rent out for the Portland, Salem, and surrounding areas. A photo booth with your wedding photography is a growing trend in the Portland area. Everyone loves a photo booth! Put on some props, get in and take some pictures! The booth will print out your photos right there on the spot. The photo booth will print out two print strips. One strip goes into the guest book for the bride and groom, the other goes home with the guest. Click on the photo booth link to learn more about photo booth fun!
